Award-winning director’s English language debut

Montréal – November 1, 2018 – Seville International is pleased to announce a strong round of international sales on Antonio Tublén’s ZOO following the film’s world premiere at 2018 Sitges Fantastic Film Festival in Spain.

Sales on the film include the Middle East (Empire), China (Jushi Films), Japan (At Entertainment), Taiwan (Moviecloud) and Vietnam (Lightning McQueen).

In ZOO, married couple Karen and John have lost the spark of life since learning they were unable to conceive. Now, they are almost like living zombies, imprisoned by everyday life. When the world is hit by a pandemic that actually turns people into the walking dead, the couple must lock themselves in their apartment while waiting for rescue. With the world outside falling apart, they are forced to find their way back to each other and reclaim their lost love.

While ZOO is the fourth feature from Tublén (ORIGINAL, LFO, ROBIN), it is his first in English. His debut feature ORIGINAL premiered at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to win Best Feature at the Shanghai International Film Festival. Following ZOO’s debut at Sitges Fantastic Film Festival, the film is slated to play at Fancine: Festival du Cine Fantastico in mid-November.

ZOO stars Zoë Tapper (STAGE BEAUTY, AFFINITY, MR. SELFRIDGE, LIAR), Edward Speleers (The House That Jack Built, DOWNTON ABBEY), Antonia Campbell-Hughes (MY Mother and Other Strangers, The Other Side of Sleep) and Jan Bijvoet (Embrace of the Serpent, BORGMAN, THE BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN).

ZOO is produced by Alexander Brøndsted (ORIGINAL, LFO, ROBIN) through his PingPong Film outfit. Tublén and Brøndsted teamed up in 2009 with ORIGINAL, and have been inseparable since, continuing their collaboration on ZOO. Logical Pictures, the elevated-genre financier, which recently backed REVENGE (Coralie Fargeat), INCIDENT IN A GHOSTLAND (Pascal Laugier) and FARMING (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), co-produces along with Film i Skåne and Ystad-Österlen Film Fond.

“We love Tublén’s dry sense of humour and are delighted with how well received ZOO has been. It puts a fresh spin on the comedy genre, taking marriage troubles to another dystopian level!”
says Anick Poirer, SVP Sales, Seville International.
