STARRING EVAN RACHEL WOOD, JULIA SARAH STONE AND DENIS O’HARE
Montréal – November 1, 2017 – Seville International is pleased to announce the sale of The Sanchez Brothers’ ALLURE, formerly known as A WORTHY COMPANION to Samuel Goldwyn for the US. The film premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and went on to the Busan and Hamburg Film festivals as well.
From the renowned artists Carlos and Jason Sanchez who have long been captivating the art world with their large format, provocative photography, ALLURE stars Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”, The Wrestler, The Ides of March), Julia Sarah Stone (“The Killing”, Weirdos, Wim Wenders’ Every Thing Will be Fine) and Denis O’Hare (Dallas Buyers Club, Milk).
“The Sanchez Brother have a rare eye that allows the great performance of Evan Rachel woods to play to thrilling heights,” says Peter Goldwyn, President of Samuel Goldwyn Films.
Laura (Evan Rachel Wood) works as a house cleaner for her father’s company but her personal life is not so pristine. Rough around the edges, looking for love in all the wrong places, her heartbreaking behavior points to hardships of the past. One day on the job, in yet another house, Laura meets Eva (Julia Sarah Stone), a quiet teenager unhappy with her disciplined life. In Eva, Laura rediscovers an innocent tenderness. In Laura, Eva finds a thrilling rebel who can bring her into unknown territories. The mutual attraction soon morphs into obsession as Laura convinces Eva to run away and secretly come live with her, perilously raising the stakes for the young, impressionable girl as Laura’s emotional instability becomes increasingly clear. As their world closes in, they must unearth certain truths to find a way out.
Written and directed by The Sanchez Brothers, the film was produced under Kim McCraw and Luc Déry’s micro_scope banner with Seville International representing international rights. ALLURE was selected to be a part of several film festival’s in 2017 including the Toronto International Film Festival, Atlantic International Film Festival, FilmFest Hamburg, Busan International Film Festival and the upcoming Thessaloniki International Film Festival and the Taipei Film Festival.
Critics have called the film “subtle and absorbing” and hailed Woods’ performance as “bewitching” and the “role she was born to play.”
“Carlos and Jason are visionaries and we are excited to partner with Samuel Goldwyn to share this, their debut film, with US audiences,” said Anick Poirier, Senior Vice President, Sales, Seville International. “ALLURE is engaging and visually striking and we are thrilled to continue our longstanding relationship with Luc and Kim with this standout film.”
The deal was negotiated by Peter Goldwyn on behalf of Samuel Goldwyn Films and by Poirier on behalf of Seville International.
