Seville International to Launch Sales in Cannes

Montreal –  In its commitment to bringing strong independent films to audiences around the world, Seville International is pleased to announce that it has secured the sales rights to Drake Doremus’ latest film, NEWNESS from producer John Finemore and UTA. Sales of the sexy social-media driven romantic drama, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, will launch at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

From acclaimed and award-winning director Drake Doremus (LIKE CRAZY, EQUALS), written by Ben York Jones (LIKE CRAZY, BREATHE IN), NEWNESS stars Nicholas Hoult (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, EQUALS, X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST), rising star Laia Costa (VICTORIA), Danny Houston (WONDER WOMAN), Matthew Gray Gubler (CRIMINAL MINDS), Courtney Eaton (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD), Jessica Henwick (GAME OF THRONES) and Albert Hammond Jr. NEWNESS marks the third feature project for Doremus and York Jones, their previous film LIKE CRAZY premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the festival’s Grand Jury Prize.

“In a world that is dictated by technology and endless options, the ability to make and sustain meaningful connections is steadily decreasing,” said director Doremus. “In NEWNESS, we wanted to illustrate how options can be both a positive and negative when trying to build deep, lasting relationships.”

NEWNESS follows Martin (Hoult) and Gabi (Costa), two millennials in Los Angeles navigating a social-media driven hook-up culture that begin a relationship which pushes both emotional and physical boundaries. At first their relationship is new and exhilarating, then, as time passes it becomes mundane. The thought of something new is intoxicating. With so many opportunities available, can two people sustain a fulfilling relationship, or will they flounder in a sea of too many options?

“We’re delighted to bring this tantalizing story to audiences. Doremus’ film is fresh and sexy. Nicholas and Laia turn up the heat and capture the hunger and excitement of a new relationship and the twists and turns it can take. We look forward to sharing NEWNESS with our partners in Cannes,” said Anick Poirier, SVP, International Sales, Seville International.

The film is produced by Scott Free’s Michael Schaefer and Michael Pruss, alongside Robert George

and Lost City’s John Finemore. Ridley Scott serves as an executive producer, with Mason Novick,

Elizabeth Grave and James Hoppe serving as executive producers from Lost City.
