Sales of the film to launch alongside the world premiere at TIFF

Montréal – September 5, 2018 – Seville International is pleased to announce it has secured international rights to THE GREAT DARKENED DAYS, the latest project from the filmmaking team behind FELIX AND MEIRA, Canada’s selection for Best Foreign Language film at the 88th Academy Awards. Sales for the film will launch at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival where the film will have its world premiere in the Contemporary World Cinema program.

THE GREAT DARKENED DAYS marks the third project together for director Maxime Giroux and producers Sylvain Corbeil and Nancy Grant of Metafilms. Their 2014 film, FELIX AND MEIRA, was nominated for Best Motion Picture at the Canadian Screen Awards and was awarded Best Canadian Film at the Toronto International Film Festival in addition to being Canada’s selection for the Oscar’s Best Foreign Language category.

In Giroux’s THE GREAT DARKENED DAYS, while a world war rages, Philippe, a draft-dodger from Quebec, takes refuge in the American West, surviving by competing in Charlie Chaplin impersonation contests. As Philippe makes his long journey home, he encounters various characters under the sway of a destructive madness borne of the chaotic times. His voyage, both violent and fascinating, is a hallucinatory initiation to the darker side of the American dream.

“It’s such an honor to come back to TIFF with THE GREAT DARKENED DAYS, four years after winning the Best Canadian Film Award at TIFF for FELIX AND MEIRA,” said producer Sylvain Corbeil. “We take great pride in having put together this powerful film, with a superb cast, in such a short period of time. Following Maxime on a new film project is always a fantastic journey and this film in particular was a memorable one for me and also for each and every member of our small and dedicated crew. We’re also very excited to team up again with Anick Poirier and her team at Seville International.”

The film stars Martin Dubreuil (FELIX AND MEIRA) as Philippe, Romain Duris (ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD), Sara Gadon (ALIAS GRACE), Reda Kateb (ZERO DARK THIRTY) and Cody Fern (AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE). THE GREAT DARKENED DAYS reunites the director and producers once again with screenwriter Alexandre Laferrière (FELIX AND MEIRA) who, along with Giroux and Simon Beaulieu (GODIN), wrote the script.

“We are delighted to be working with this incredible team once again on this timely, relevant film,” says Anick Poirier, SVP of Sales, Seville International. “Maxime crafted a film that uniquely comments on the political landscape in America. THE GREAT DARKENED DAYS is a cinematic accomplishment and we’re excited to introduce it to audiences worldwide.”

The deal was negotiated by Poirier for Seville International and Corbeil on behalf of the film.
