IFC Midnight takes the US
Montreal – September 26, 2017 – Seville International is pleased to announce a strong round of international sales on Adam MacDonald’s PYEWACKET, following the film’s premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.
Sales on the film include US (IFC Midnight), UK (Signature Entertainment), Japan (New Select), Latin America (Cinemex), Middle East (Empire International Gulf), Indonesia (Pratama), Malaysia (Suraya) and Vietnam (Green Media).
PYEWACKET follows the story of Leah, a teenage girl who is forced to move to a house in the woods by her unstable mother after the painful passing of her father. Feeling trapped and hopeless, Leah turns to Black Magic to release her anger. She naively performs an occult ritual found in a book on her bedroom shelf to evoke the spirit of a witch to kill her mother. Stricken by guilt, Leah desperately tries to reverse the spell, but soon realizes she has awoken something in the woods, and nothing can prepare Leah for the terror she has unleashed.
PYEWACKET is the second feature from writer/director Adam MacDonald, whose first feature BACKCOUNTRY previously debuted at TIFF, where he was named by Globe and Mail as one of the “Top Ten Canadians to Watch.” BACKCOUNTRY also reached #1 on iTunes Horror in the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Saudi Arabia and #3 in the UK.
Critics have been praising PYEWACKET, saying it is “beautifully shot with impressive performances all around.” And calling it “terrifying,” and “a sea of brooding tension.” “One of the biggest surprises out of the Toronto International Film Festival.”
