Seville International to Launch Sales in Cannes
Montreal – May 10, 2017 – In its commitment to bringing strong independent films to audiences around the world, Seville International is pleased to announce that it has secured the worldwide rights excluding North America to Guy Nattiv’s gripping new feature SKIN.
From award-winning filmmaker Guy Nattiv (STRANGERS, THE FLOOD), SKIN stars Jamie Bell (JANE EYRE, SNOWPIERCER, 6 DAYS, AND NYMPHOMANIAC) and Danielle Macdonald (Sundance breakout PATTI CAKE$, THE EAST). SKIN is the fourth feature film for Nattiv. His second feature, THE FLOOD (MABUL), won the top prize at the Berlin Film Festival in 2011 and was nominated for 6 Ophir Awards (Israeli Academy Awards).
SKIN, follows the unbelievable gritty true story of Bryon “Pitbull” Widner, member of a notorious Neo-Nazi skinhead clan who was covered in facial and body tattoos he “earned” by committing hate crimes for his gang. When Bryon falls in love with Julie and her three daughters outside the movement, he makes the decision to change his life but must turn on his violent ‘nationalist’ group, which results in the arrest of its leaders. At a time he needs it most, Widner receives a gift from the most unlikely of sources, $70,000 from a Holocaust survivor to have his facial tattoos removed: a long and painful and process that he must endure in order to find work and help his family survive. The change that Widner goes through is as much emotional and spiritual as it is physical.
“I met Bryon Widner in 2012 after seeing the MSNBC documentary on him and his tattoo removal process. I was living in Israel at the time, but chased him down, and flew to New Mexico with trepidation and fear. I was the first Jew he ever encountered, and he was certainly the first skinhead I ever met. This led to a five-year collaboration and deep friendship between us,” said Nattiv.
“I researched and wrote the film thinking I was representing a small subsection of this country, what I’ve been calling the back yard of America. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought Skin was in fact this country’s front yard. Being a new US citizen and coming from a very divided country myself, I feel strongly that in times of despair and fear, we need art more than ever. A film like ours has the urgency to show America its own ugly reflection and the tremendous possibility for change and hope,” Nattiv continued.
“Bryon’s story of love overcoming hate is incredibly timely and compelling and we are excited to bring this amazing project to buyers in Cannes. Guy is a gifted storyteller with a strong ability to find complex stories that resonate with people the world over,” said Anick Poirier, SVP, International Sales, Seville International. “Jamie and Danielle are two highly-skilled actors who will masterfully bring this remarkable story to life.”
SKIN is produced by Code Entertainment’s Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt, and Eugene Musso, with Oren Moverman, Nattiv, and Jaime Ray Newman. Jonathan Dana serves as executive producer along with ITEM 7’s Marie-Claude Poulin and Pierre Even.
“We are fortunate to be able to share this incredible journey with Guy Nattiv in telling such a remarkable and timely story of courage and love,” said Code Entertainment’s Al Corley. “To have the enormous talents of Jamie Bell and Danielle McDonald to be so deeply committed is a godsend.”
Jamie Bell is represented by UTA and Artist Independent Management and Danielle Macdonald is represented by CAA and management company Justice & Ponder. Guy Nattiv is represented by Peter Trinh of ICM which will represent the film for sale in North America along with CAA.
